Protecting Posidonia: Fodele Beach Officially Joins the Greek Islands Seagrass Alliance
At Fodele Beach Water Park Resort, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to announce that we have officially joined the Greek Islands Seagrass Alliance (GISA), a pioneering initiative that brings together scientists, environmental organisations, local authorities and tourism businesses to protect and restore the Mediterranean’s invaluable Posidonia oceanica meadows.
What is Posidonia?
Often mistaken for seaweed, Posidonia oceanica is a unique marine plant found only in the Mediterranean Sea. Its underwater meadows are essential for marine biodiversity, improve water quality, capture and store significant amounts of carbon, and naturally protect our coastlines from erosion. Even the leaves that naturally wash ashore play an important role in maintaining healthy beaches and coastal ecosystems.
